Static Dread: The Submarine patch notes

Launch-day hotfixes first. QoL the developers already promised next.

Patch Notes

Static Dread: The Submarine shipped on 14 August 2026. Within a day, solarsuit.games posted two Steam hotfixes. This page is the living patch log for those notes and the news that still matters after launch. Store price, Deluxe extras, and the demo-save warning stay on Launch Notes. Play advice stays in the Guides Hub.

The game is released, single-player, Windows, Steam app 4042160 and GOG. There is no multiplayer. Developer posts live on the Steam news hub. Discord for testers was linked from the launch announcement. This wiki will not invent patch bullets that Steam has not published.

15 August 2026 — Important hotfix

Steam tag: patchnotes. Author: solarsuit.

Players and reviews surfaced a dangerous bug that in certain cases broke the story sequence and let you interact with an object that should not have been interactable. The hotfix closed that hole. If a prop still looks clickable and does nothing useful, leave it — that is now intended. If a door still will not open, you probably missed a secure report or a roster card, not this bug. See the Ares map and Getting Started.

The post thanks players for feedback and says the team is watching reviews. That is not a promise of a content expansion. It is a QA loop.

14 August 2026 — Small hotfix

Steam tag: patchnotes. Posted the evening of launch.

The fix reduces the chance of a rare story event that was triggering too often. The developers called it really small and said more QoL fixes were coming early the following week. This wiki will add those notes when they exist. We will not fill the gap with guessed balance numbers.

If your first run felt like an event fired twice, you may have been on the unpatched evening build. Start a new file after the hotfix if a flag looks stuck. Demo saves still do not convert; this is a retail-to-retail issue, not a playtest import.

14 August 2026 — Launch window (not a patch, still news)

Official posts the same day:

  • Release at 17:00 CEST / 15:00 UTC / 08:00 PT.
  • Introductory 20% discount. Example table from the eight-hour warning: USD $11.99 → $9.59, EUR €12.25 → €9.80. Steam store copy also showed the offer running through 28 August.
  • Launch trailer embedded on the “out now” post.

Deluxe extras (supporter pack, soundtrack, digital art) are store DLC, not patches. Details: DLC.

3 August 2026 — Demo closed

Not a binary patch. Still the most-searched “update” after launch.

  • Demo closed 3 August 2026.
  • Saves will not carry into the full game.
  • Developers said the demo was significantly outdated versus the 14 August retail build.

If a guide still describes a three-shift playtest slice as the whole Ares, it is stale. Use the story walkthrough and how to survive.

Older notes that still explain retail systems

These are not August hotfixes. They are why the boat plays the way it does.

  • Demo content (2026) — maintenance you perform yourself: food, blocked compartments, inspection, underwater drone hull repair; sonar can lay a route; you can die if you ignore the boat; extra failure if submarine tasks are skipped; story quests tweaked; biological growths added. See drone repair and sonar.
  • Save system overhaul — manual consoles around the hull, report-to-captain fiction, smaller binary saves, menu split between manual and auto, Steam Cloud. Playtest-era posts hoped demo saves might convert later; launch communication contradicted that. Trust launch: no transfer.
  • Playtest polish — gamepad, Steam Deck comfort, UI layout, volume balance. Average playtest scores were high (~4.5/5) with ~1 hour in the closed slice. Retail first endings are commonly 3–4 hours.

What we will not list as a patch

  • Cannot find the gun — Controls.
  • Sonar will not auto-lock — design. Sonar guide.
  • Sealed Captain door — story gate.
  • Lighthouse radio codes failing — wrong game.
  • Review complaints about pacing or mythos density — editorial, not a hotfix target. Read the review.

When the promised early-next-week QoL lands, this page gets the bullets first, then we grep facts and any page that named the old behaviour. Until then, play on the 15 August story-sequence build, staff the roster, and stop clicking props that were never a puzzle.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is there a day-one patch?

Yes. A small hotfix on 14 August reduced a rare story event. An important hotfix on 15 August fixed a story-sequence / illegal-interact bug.

Will more patches come?

Developers said more QoL was coming early the week after launch. This page will list them when Steam publishes notes.

Did hotfixes add new endings?

No. Published notes describe bug frequency and an invalid interaction, not new story chapters.

Do I need to start a new save?

If a flag looks stuck after the 15 August hotfix, start a new retail file. Demo saves still do not transfer.
