How to play the Ares

Static Dread: The Submarine is not a shooter. These guides explain the first accident, the gun bind, sonar contacts, and how to keep a shrinking crew working.

Guides Hub

Every how-to in one directory, from first dive to mutated-crew fights.

Getting Started

Survive the opening accident, report to the bridge, and take the First Mate post.

Controls

Keyboard, mouse, and controller binds, including how to draw the handgun.

Sonar Guide

Read animal, vessel, and unknown contacts without locking on blindly.

Crew Management

Assign Kelly, Zack, Sharon, and Michael before the roster collapses.

How to Survive

Reactor clock, hull leaks, hatches, and madness before the Ares dies.

Review

Who this sequel is for, where it beats The Lighthouse, and where it does not.

Ares Map

Decks, sealed hatches, save consoles, and why a door is still locked.

Drone Guide

Food runs, blocked compartments, and hull patches you weld from outside.

Walkthrough and endings

The Ares does not have one correct route. Use these pages when you want a story map without mixing in Lighthouse radio codes from the first game.

Walkthrough Hub

Story beats, choice clusters, and how a 3–4 hour run actually unfolds.

Story Walkthrough

Accident, sonar shifts, Timmy, the rift, and the submerged city in order.

Endings Guide

Survive, cultist, Great Old One, Blackfort, and the rare Dream Team path.

Crew of the Ares

Every named sailor is a job, a conversation, and a possible death. When someone is gone, their duties land on you.

Crew Hub

First Mate, Captain, Kelly, Zack, Sharon, Michael, and Timmy in one roster.

Crew Fates

What each choice does to Sharon, Zack, Michael, Kelly, and Timmy.

Tools and checklists

Practical pages for launch-week questions: will it run, which trophy is hidden, and where the jukebox is hiding.

Tools Hub

System specs, achievement list, and collectibles in one place.

Achievements

All 45 Steam trophies, including hidden Timmy and ending unlocks.

Collectibles

Figurine, jukebox, coffee machine, darts, and Dread Invaders.

DLC Extras

Soundtrack, art collection, and supporter pack — none of them change the story.

Launch notes

The full game shipped on 14 August 2026. Demo saves do not carry over, and the demo build was older than retail.

Updates Hub

Release status, platforms, and what changed after the playtest.

Launch Notes

Price, Deluxe extras, demo closure, and where to buy without DRM on GOG.

Patch Notes

14–15 August 2026 hotfixes: rare event spam and a story-sequence bug.

First dive

Four steps that stop the most common early failures.

  1. 1

    Survive the accident

Hold through the opening leak, follow the tubes to pressure control, and report the deck secure. The Getting Started page walks that first compartment in order.

  2. 2

    Learn the sonar console

Do not treat every ping as an enemy ship. Classify animal, mechanical, and unknown contacts before you pick a heading toward the coast.

  3. 3

    Staff the urgent roster

Assign Kelly, Zack, Sharon, and Michael as soon as the First Mate console unlocks. Unstaffed jobs become your jobs when people die.

  4. 4

    Choose Timmy with intent

Shooting, sparing, and hunting a cure all branch the story. Read the Timmy guide before you empty the Captain's handgun.

FAQ

Wiki FAQ

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is Static Dread: The Submarine out now?

Yes. It released on 14 August 2026 for Windows on Steam and GOG as a single-player title. There is no multiplayer.

Do I need to play The Lighthouse first?

No. The Submarine is a new story in the same aurora-struck world. Playing The Lighthouse adds context, but this wiki does not reuse that game's radio or nuclear codes.

Which languages does this wiki cover?

English, French, German, and Spanish. Legal pages (terms, privacy, cookies) stay in English and are shared across languages.

Does the Steam demo save carry into the full game?

No. The developers stated demo saves do not transfer, and the demo was significantly older than the 14 August retail build.

How long is a playthrough?

Most Steam reviewers finish a first ending in about three to four hours. Extra endings, Dream Team, and collectibles need extra runs.

Is this an official wiki?

No. This is an unofficial fan resource. Confirm patches and store details on Steam, GOG, or solarsuit.games.
